Geography of Switzerland

Switzerland is divided into three regions: the Alps, Jura and the Swiss Plateau between the two. Almost 70% of the country is covered by mountains.

Almost 60% of the country is covered by the Alps which are in southern and central regions.The highest peak is 4634 m. The Monte Rosa alpine areas though, are productive in terms of agriculture. The Swiss Alps are part of the most extensive mountain range in Europe.

The Jura Mountains are some mountains with heights lower than the Alps bordering France, reaching its 1600 km in South-East.

Switzerland is famous for its many lakes such as Lake Geneva, Lake Lugano, Lake Maggiore, Lake Neuchatel, Lake Lucerne, Lake Zurich, Briensee and Thunersee.
