Geography of Italy

Italy is a country that has a diverse landscape and had numerous natural disasters. These were correlated with the development of geological mountains that are based on tectonic plate movement. Italian Alps are only a quarter of the entire mountain range. A large piece of the land border follows the line bordering the Adriatic Sea drainage basin.

The border between Italy and France goes along the ridge, so that there are currently heated debates on behalf of Peak Mont Blanc (Monte Bianco) which is claimed by both powers. This peak is the highest both in the Alps, and in Italy, surpassing the height of 4000 m.

This country should have been forested but people have destroyed native vegetation and radically reconfigured it. Flora typical for the Mediterranean climate is in the south.

Sicily is the largest Mediterranean island. It is populated by more than 5 million inhabitants and has a total area of 25,708 square kilometers. The Island and the country's land is separated only by a small strip of water.
